The yen held against the dollar and euro but eased to the pound in late morning trading Thursday. Traders considered two rate decisions in Europe and comments by Bank of Japan’s (BoJ) Deputy Governor.

The Swiss franc was varied against its major counterparts in trading on Thursday morning in New York. The franc saw little movement against the buck and yen, but saw weakness against the pound and strength versus the euro. The currency moved with little economic news from the area.

The Swiss currency moved little against its American counterpart in trading on Thursday morning. The franc bounced between a high of 1.1770 and a low of 1.1808. The pair moved as the U.S. Department of Labor released its report on initial jobless claims in the week ended September 29, showing that jobless claims rose more than expected.

The dollar climbed in mid-morning trading against the Swiss franc and reached a two-week high. The greenback began to rise at around 8:30 a.m. ET and has climbed to 1.1814 against the franc. The rally took the buck away from a 2 ½ year low, reached late last week.

The greenback climbed sharply against the euro on Thursday and hit a 10-day high. The dollar rose at around 8:30 a.m. ET and has reached 1.4070. Overall, the greenback is slowly inching away from a record low reached earlier this week against the euro.

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) – The amount of laid-off workers applying for unemployment benefits has grown in the week of September 29 after a surprising decline in the previous week.
Initial jobless claims have grown by 16,000 to a seasonally adjusted amount of 317,000, according to figures released by the Commerce Department. Claims for the previous week have been revised up to 301,000 from the initial estimation of 298,000.
The latest increase in claims has surpassed the experts’ forecasts, which advanced an increase by 12,000 new claims.
The four week average, more trustworthy as it erases seasonal influences, has increased by 500 to 312,750.

After declining slightly against its Slovakian counterpart in the early Asian deals on Thursday, the US dollar gained ground at about 10:20 pm Eastern Time. Moving from 24.2640, the pair hit a high of 24.3620 by about 4:45 am ET. Thereafter the US currency lost its momentum and was quoted at 24.2690 against the Slovakian koruna as at 7:25 am ET.

The US dollar lost ground by about 2.05am ET against the Danish krone, in the early European deals on Thursday. Falling from 5.2965, the pair hit a low of 5.2726 at about 6.10am ET. The pair has collected a few pips lately and was worth 5.2824 as of 7.25am ET.

After a brief down trend, the US dollar moved slightly higher against the Swedish krona in the Asian deals on Thursday. However, the dollar lost its ground in the early European session and reached a low of 6.4976 by about 7:05 am ET. If the pair weakens further, 6.4737 can probably be the next target level.
